Evidence Assignment

This project is called the Motion Project, which is centered around capturing moments in motion. I chose to focus on the theme of feeling euphoric. As soon as I saw the guidelines for the assignment, I knew that this was the theme that I wanted to focus on. Taking photos with a longer shutter speed has always reminded me of a hazy vibe, which I thought would be perfect for capturing the feeling of euphoria.

Motion Assignment

I think that my photos are a really interesting and unique take on the assignment's guidelines and demonstrate a lot of thought and intentionality. By taking photos from a dog's perspective and editing them in Lightroom to reflect the color visuals of a dog, I was able to create a really impactful and emotional series of images that are sure to elicit a response from viewers. One of the things that I think stands out about my photos is the way that they play with perspective. By taking photos from a dog's point of view, I was able to capture a different kind of reality than what we're used to seeing in photos. This perspective shift allows you to create a sense of isolation and connection simultaneously, as you “the viewer” you are able to see the world from a completely different perspective. I captured angles from looking up at the couch, looking at the dog’s “owner” getting snacks in the kitchen, getting ready to leave, and grabbing their backpack, and the bathroom getting ready for bed. The use of color I chose to reflect regarding what color scale dogs can see is also really effective in conveying the emotions that I was trying to evoke with my photos. By editing the photos to reflect the color visuals of a dog, I was able to create a sense of whimsy and playfulness that I thought was really engaging. The colors also help to create a sense of mood and atmosphere. My photos fit really well within the assignment guidelines. I’ve created images that are full of meaning and that work within a theme, while also playing around with artistic and design qualities to create something impactful and unique. Thanks for looking at my work I hope that you enjoy it!

Final Project

I chose to do my final project on my friend Deyah El Azhari, this photo project is to document her along with a 9-minute interview. Growing up she was from 2 very different ethnic backgrounds and suppressed her Morrocan identity at school, she now embraces herself and her identities fully and I wanted to share her story. Deyah El Azhari is a young woman who has grown up in a predominantly white community with a mother who is Ashkenazi Jew and a Father who is Moroccan, and who wasn’t around her much growing up. As she grew older Deyah's mother made an effort to introduce her to her Moroccan culture by bringing her to Morocco and to a mosque for Sunday school. However, Deyah spent a lot of time around Jewish people, which influenced her to identify more with her Jewish side. She read the classics of European literature in school and at home, which also influenced her identity. Deyah's school environment was not always welcoming. People were racist towards her and made fun of her hair. To fit in, she tried to look more white and even straightened her hair. This made her feel inferior, and people would always ask her "What are you?" because she looked racially ambiguous. Despite the challenges, Deyah has learned to embrace both sides of her ethnicity. She sees the beauty in both sides of her family and is proud of their distinct and unique cultures. Deyah's journey is a reminder that we should celebrate and embrace our cultural backgrounds, even in the face of adversity. Deyah has been my best friend for the past 4 years and I am so grateful she let me share her story.
